Vintage Vehicles Roll Into Walker Tavern Historic Site
The 7th Annual Walker on Wheels Car Show is Saturday, August 6th from 10 am to 3 pm on the grounds of Historic Walker Tavern in the Irish Hills.
DEARBORN, MI, July 31, 2011 /Travel PR News/ -- The 7th Annual Walker on Wheels Car Show is Saturday, August 6th from 10 am to 3 pm on the grounds of Historic Walker Tavern in the Irish Hills. The show promises old time vehicles, ragtime music, and festive food against a backdrop of historic buildings.
Car enthusiasts can recreate the leisurely drive that brought so many visitors to the Irish Hills during the early years of auto touring by packing a picnic lunch and driving down US-12, a Michigan State Heritage Trail, to Cambridge Junction.
Public admission to the car show, concert by ragtime pianist, Michael Xtrasolar, and tours of Walker Tavern are free.
The show is open to vintage cars, trucks, campers, motorcycles, and other wheeled vehicles produced in 1961 or earlier. Call 517-467-4401 for a registration form and more information. Registration is also available on site the day of the show. Gates open at 9am. The entry fee is $10 or $5 in advance. The first 100 cars to register will receive commemorative dash plaques. Top Ten Awards and a "Best of Show" Award are participant-judged. There are no specific categories. Car show participants will be eligible for door prizes throughout the day.
"There's bound to be some surprises in this year's show," said Cheryl Natzmer Valentine, Historian at Walker Tavern. "We've invited owners of any vehicle 50 years old or older to participate. In past years we've had vintage motorcycles, delivery vans, and barn-finds. It's fun to hear the stories behind these vehicles and how they've become a part of the families who own them."
Historic Walker Tavern is one of 11 nationally accredited museums administered by the Michigan Historical Center, an agency within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Historic Walker Tavern is located at the junction of M-50 and US-12 in southern Michigan. Regular hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm.
